Strain at Crosstown Traffic, 1994

Strain plays at Crosstown Traffic on Hastings St in downtown Vancouver on December 10, 1994. As you can see, it was a tiny venue. First part of this video I’m behind a bunch of people in anticipation of a mosh pit. I move off to the side part way through. As you can see, in typical Vancouver fashion, the audience is super mellow. Shot poorly on Hi8 by me.

Sparkmarker at Crosstown Traffic, 1994

Sparkmarker plays at Crosstown Traffic on Hastings St in downtown Vancouver on December 10, 1994. As you can see, it was a tiny venue and they played in the middle of the room. For some reason I shot this from behind them so this is more for the audio. You may also notice that Ryan is no longer in Sparkmarker at this point and Kim has taken over vocal duties. For more info about Sparkmarker, check out Kim Kinakin’s site http://www.kimkinakin.com/home.html. Shot poorly on Hi8 by me.

Zig Zag: How to Be Cool

I can’t believe this was what TV was like in the 80s. Zig Zag was a TV series produced by BCTV (now Global BC) in Vancouver from 1980-1988. Terry David Mulligan, Susanne McLellan, Valri Bromfield, Mairlyn Smith, Bill Reiter, and Rick Ducommun were some of the hosts. Norm Grohmann, Nicola Cavendish, and Ryan Stiles also made regular appearances. Any show that has a large, harry man tell kids that naked is sometimes better than cool probably wouldn’t be on the air today. I remember loving this show and watching it pretty regularly all through the 80s. I guess I was seduced by the low production value and cheesy humour. In any case, it’s just one of the many shows that has made me who I am today.
